Designing next generation mechatronic medical devices with system simulation

Use system simulation to overcome the challenges of complex interacting systems and components

Tiempo de visualización estimado: 49 minutos

Today, simulation is increasingly used to generate digital evidence of medical device performance. This does not only happen in the design phase, but also in the regulatory submission procedure to agencies such as the FDA that are responsible for protecting and promoting public health in the United States. With the increased use of simulation software, we are observing more digital evidence with fewer test benches, clinical trials or animal tests.

System simulation is a common engineering tool widely used by many advanced industries to drive innovation and is being adopted by medical device companies to accelerate device development and manage risk. System simulation is well suited for assessing the effect of variability in the device design, operation, usage and patient characteristics, such as morphologies, age, gender and more.

Creating 1D simulation models to manage device risk

Even before product-specific geometry or a CAD definition becomes available, you can use Simcenter system simulation solutions to design entire systems. With Simcenter, teams have the ability to create system models, also known as 1D models, based on equations describing the physical behavior of system components.

Simcenter also includes access to a library of thousands of components with validated physical behavior. Engineers can use these components to build a full system representation to simulate the physical, dynamic behavior of complex engineering systems across multiple industry applications. Many of these applications will be shown in the webinar.

What you will learn from this webinar

As system simulation is gaining momentum in the medical device industry, this webinar will provide you with meaningful insights into its role in designing smarter, higher performing, and efficient medical devices while containing time and costs. In this webinar, you will learn:

  • Basic principles of system simulation applied to the medical sector

  • The potential of co-simulation to predict the performance of a complete medical device

  • The value of system simulation illustrated on various use cases, including orthosis, smart beds, ventilators, pumps and more
