Hand placing macros has long been a part of the flow that is time consuming, iterative and requires designer expertise on any given project. Aprisa’s AI-driven macro placement technology aims to reduce the effort spent by the designers, while producing results in a fraction of the time, and delivering same or better PPA as achieved by expert designers without pushing the challenges downstream. This presentation describes this new methodology and how the results and runtime compare to the traditional methodology of hand-placing the macros. It also discusses the benefits of using Aprisa’s design exploration capabilities to enhance the automated process.

Pinkesh Shah is a Senior Director of Physical Design at Maxlinear Technologies. Pinkesh has over 20 years of experience in Backend Implementation and Project management with companies like Western Digital, Samsung Semiconductor, Microsemi, and Open-Silicon among others. He has expertise in RTL2GDSII implementation and has taped out over 50 SoCs in different technologies ranging from 130nm to 5nm, in products like data center, SSD, automotive and networking devices.
