Dr. Estrella Rogel

Staff Scientist

Dr. Estrella Rogel has over 35 years of experience in the characterization of materials for the Petroleum Industry. She currently leads the implementation of new analytical techniques for the understanding of heavy crude oils as well as of renewable feedstocks.

Dr. Rogel has published 96 technical papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been awarded 19 patents. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Energy & Fuels Journal and has received several awards for her work, including the HENAAC Scientist of the Year and the R.A. Glenn Award from ACS. She holds MS and PhD degrees in Chemistry.

Dr. Jan-Willem Handgraaf

Principal Enterprise Engineer

Dr. Jan-Willem Handgraaf holds a Master's degree in theoretical chemistry from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and a PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam. Dr. Handgraaf also holds an MBA degree from the same university.

Until April 2021, he was Chief Application Scientist, part of the management team of Culgi B.V., a software and services company based in Leiden, the Netherlands, with a focus on industrial multiscale modeling. After its acquisition by Siemens Digital Industries Software, he is now an Industry Consultant with a focus on materials modeling. Dr. Handgraaf has over 15 years of experience in the industry and has co-authored more than 50 academic publications.
